Payments, Refunds & Cancellations
How tournament entry fees, platform fees, refunds, and cancellations work.
Effective August 14, 2026 · Last updated August 14, 2026
How payments work
A Tournament Director sets the entry fee. Participant entry fees are sent directly to the Tournament Director through PayPal, Venmo, or cash and remain pending until the Tournament Director confirms receipt.
- Selecting a payment method does not by itself verify payment.
- Stripe is used only for the $5 AnglerHost tournament participation fee and the optional Annual Tournament Pass.
- AnglerHost does not hold organizer funds or distribute tournament prizes.
Refund responsibility
If a Tournament Director cancels a tournament before it ever starts, AnglerHost automatically refunds each paid $5 participation fee to the original Stripe payment method. No per-event refund is due for an entry covered by an Annual Tournament Pass because no separate $5 charge was made.
Once a tournament has started, the $5 AnglerHost participation fee is not automatically refundable. AnglerHost may still approve an exception for extenuating circumstances or when applicable law requires it.
The Tournament Director remains solely responsible for refunding organizer entry fees and side pots paid through PayPal, Venmo, cash, or another outside method.
- Starting a tournament permanently ends automatic $5 cancellation-refund eligibility, even if the event is later stopped or cancelled.
- A rejected payment submission returns the participant to the available payment choices.
- Outside-payment refunds must be sent by the Tournament Director outside AnglerHost and then recorded in the tournament history.
AnglerHost tournament participation fees
AnglerHost charges each entrant a $5 participation fee for each real-world tournament. Tournament Directors do not prepay an activation fee and pay the same $5 fee only when they enter a tournament themselves.
An optional $49.99 Annual Tournament Pass covers AnglerHost participation fees for unlimited tournament entries during the 12 months after purchase. It is a one-time 12-month purchase and does not automatically renew.
- Tournament entry fees charged by the organizer and optional side pots are separate and are not covered by the Annual Tournament Pass.
- Checkout itemizes the organizer entry fee, the AnglerHost participation fee or Annual Tournament Pass coverage, side pots, and the total.
- These charges are for entering and participating in real-world tournaments, not for unlocking digital app functionality.
